Have you ever visited a website or blog and discovered the owner had published an article written by another business owner, along with a short biography of the author and a link to his or her website? You might have wondered how you could have someone publish an article you wrote and advertise your business like that for you.

It’s actually very easy to publish your articles on the Internet, and it’s free to do. If you’ve been sending articles out in your monthly newsletters or keeping them hidden in a folder on your computer, it might be time for you to consider publishing them on the Internet.

There are some important benefits to publishing your articles on the Internet. For one, there’s that momentary thrill you feel when you see your name in print. But these are even better:

- Publishing your articles online can bring more traffic to your website
- You can get more subscribers for your newsletter
- You’ll gain an Internet presence
- Publishing articles online can even help your website show up higher in the search engine results when people search for words related to your business

When you’re ready to publish your articles on the internet, here are three ways you can get started.

Publish the article on your own website or blog. To tell your visitors they can use your article on their websites and blogs too, add a copyright notice to the bottom of the article and include the words, “This article is free to reprint so long as you keep the author’s resource box intact and include an active link to this website.”

Submit your article to an article directory. To begin submitting your articles to directories like EzineArticles.com or WAHM-Articles.com, you’ll need to sign up for a free membership to their website then follow their guidelines for submitting your articles.

When your article is published on an article directory, website owners can find it and may choose to publish it on their sites. Article directories require publishers to include your author’s resource box, or bio, and a link to your website with your article.

Send your article directly to website owners. Find a website or blog where you would like to have your article published. Look for one that publishes articles written by other authors and that your target market will frequent.

Then email the website owner to tell them about your article and inquire if they would be interested in publishing it. Most publishers will be glad you contacted them about your article because it saves them time having to find good articles on their own.

If you’re ready to start publishing your articles on the Internet, choose one of these methods, or even all three, and start publishing your articles online today.

Work at home moms usually aren’t created overnight. If you are like many moms who decide to work from home, you have probably been frustrated by juggling being a working professional with being a parent and managing your family life. You may have been on a quest to find the perfect work from home job for you.

Now that you’ve found the right opportunity, you may be wondering how you will adjust to your new life as a work from home mom. Not to worry, as it is possible to successfully transition from the corporate world to working from home.

Here are some ideas to help you make this transition and enjoy the best of both worlds, as a mom and as a working professional.

1. Set a schedule. One of the most difficult things in working from home is determining a schedule that will work for you and your family. You now have the freedom to work whenever you want, but you will need some structure in your day so you can get things done, and still meet your family’s needs.

2. Make childcare arrangements. Many work at home moms believe that, since they’re working from home to be with their children, they don’t need to use childcare. If you continue to use childcare, though, you will find you are more productive during your work day, and you’ll be able to give your children more of your attention when they come home. On the plus side, you won’t need to use childcare as often as you did when you worked outside the home.

3. Find other work at home moms to connect with. Whether you join work at home mom forums, or network with other work at home moms in your community, it’s important to have this kind of support. Moms who work at home face many issues that no other group does, and these support networks will give you an opportunity to learn from others’ experiences and share your own.

You will be successful as a work at home mom because you took the time to find the right job that will work best for your life. By using the above ideas, you will soon enjoy the sense of freedom that working from home brings. It is then that you will realize the best of both worlds: being a mom and being able to make a living from home.

Work at home moms often begin to work from home with the idea that they’ll have more time to spend with their children. What they often discover instead, though, is that they end up with less family time. In fact, even the time they used to religiously set aside for their children isn’t as meaningful as it once was.

How does this happen?

What many moms don’t realize when they start a work at home business, is that running a business can take twice as much time (or more) than going outside to work. You don’t have to spend time doing your hair and makeup in the morning, or commuting to your workplace, so you do save time there. However, you now need to market your business, do your bookkeeping, network with others in your industry, maintain your website, and still find time for the revenue-producing activity of your business.

Each one of those jobs could be a full-time position all by itself. In addition to all this (and probably more) you have the incredible responsibility of mothering your children. Most moms already know that’s much more than a full-time job.

Unfortunately, you still have only 24 hours in a day in which to get everything done, and you have to go to sleep sometime.

When I began my career as a work at home mom, I resisted the idea of using childcare for my young children. After all, I had chosen to work from home so I could be with my children. Why would I send them somewhere else? My children, though, changed my mind. They began asking to go to Grandma’s house when I had to work or had an important project to finish.

Reluctantly, I gave in. What I discovered though, is that when they were out of the house, I was able to be much more productive in those few hours each day. When they came back home, I was able to devote my full attention to them and was a better mother.

Not everyone has a grandparent living nearby, but you probably have many affordable childcare options available to you. You could consider putting your children in preschool classes a few days each week, a daycare or a dayhome.

You could also look for a mom with young children or a retiree who would love to spend a few hours with your children each day. Another option is to find a mother’s helper, a pre-teen or teenager who comes to your own home each day after school to look after the kids.

Using childcare while I worked at home is something I never really got used to, but I know that my children and my business both benefited from it.

Whether you want to start a work at home business to add to your family’s income or to break away from the daily grind of your current job, you have many options for becoming a work at home mom. Below you’ll find three easy-to-start work at home business ideas, and some simple techniques you can use to generate your first sales

Affiliate Marketing

An easy business for work at home moms to start is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when you earn money by promoting other people’s products. You’re not responsible for the delivery of a product, or for the customer service. You earn money simply by referring people to a product. When people buy the product through your link, you earn a commission.

You don’t need a website to be an affiliate marketer, but you will need an Internet presence with something like a blog or a Squidoo lens. The best way to become a successful affiliate marketer is to build an email list. Then you can keep your list informed of new products they would be interested in.

Service Provider

If you are skilled in providing a certain service, you might want to offer this service to clients. You could be a web designer, graphic designer, writer, virtual assistant, event planner… anything you are good at and would enjoy doing for others. You will also need a way to provide this service from a home office.

Blogging

You can earn money as a work at home mom by setting up a blog and blogging about a topic you know a lot about and are interested in. You should do some research beforehand to be sure others are interested in this topic as well. You can earn an income by putting AdSense ads on your blog, offering affiliate products, and doing paid reviews.

The Easiest Way to Market Your Work at Home Business

Whichever work at home mom business you decide is right for you, you will need a way to tell others about it. One of the easiest ways to spread the word about your new home business is by writing and submitting articles.

Simply write articles that educate your target market about how your product or service can help them, then distribute them across the Internet. Be sure to include a link to your website or blog in your resource box so your readers can visit you to learn more about your business.

If you choose your business wisely, and spend time marketing it every day, you can become a successful work at home mom too.

One of the best ways to get the word out about your work-at-home-mom (WAHM) business is by generating some publicity. There are many simple ways to get media attention for your business, and some of the most effective can be to help someone else. Almost every list of easy publicity-generating ideas contains something like this:

“Sponsor a charity and write a press release about your involvement.”

That is an excellent suggestion. People (and the media) love stories about others who are making a real difference in the world, and supporting a charity is an effective way to do that.

The danger is though, that in your press release, the organization you’re supporting might overshadow your business and the work you’re doing there… the reason for the sponsorship and the release in the first place.

When your reader gets to the end of the release, you want them to pick up the phone and call you, not immediately research the charity you’re supporting. They can always do that after they talk to you.

While you should definitely focus on how you’re helping others in your release, be sure to always bring your readers’ attention back to you and your business.

One way to do this is, before launching into the details of the event in your release, write a paragraph of information about your business. This makes it clear to your reader that this release is about you. You could also add another sentence or two about your business at the end of the release - just one more reminder for the reader to visit you.

If you remember to give your readers a good reason to visit you, sponsoring a charity or event can be a powerful way to gain publicity for your business.

By Denise Willms

If you’re a mom who wants to start a home business because your husband has a chronic illness, you’re in good company. I’ve met several moms who have decided to start a home business either because they want to be free to care for their husbands when needed, or because they want to help with expenses until their husband gets back on his feet.

In fact, that was a very big reason why I decided to work from home in 2004. Juggling my office job plus getting my husband to all his appointments was becoming unmanageable. When he was admitted to the hospital for months at a time, it became even harder to look after the kids and still go to work each day.
I decided to start a home business that would give me the freedom to care for my family while still helping to pay the bills.

If that’s how you’re feeling, it’s important to have realistic expectations for your new home business. If the purpose of your business is to help support your family during your husband’s illness, you don’t have time to waste, and you’ll need to invest your money wisely. Here are some important things to remember as you begin doing research for your new home business:

1. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

2. It may take you upwards of a year to see any real income from your business.

3. Many so-called “experts” aren’t making any money online. Only take advice from people who know are successful. That will save you a lot of time and money.

4. A good business coach can help you get where you want to go quickly. While you might be put off by the initial cost of a coach, she can save you months (or years) of mistakes. I was fortunate to find a mentor who kept me on track during that first year, and I avoided many costly errors.

5. If you think having your own business means you’ll have more time for your family, you could be in for an unpleasant surprise. For example, a service business can be very demanding unless you have processes in place to keep things going when you’re not available. Look for a business model that will allow you the freedom you need.

For my family, my home business has been a blessing. It means I don’t need to go out to work during the difficult times. I’m home to give my husband and kids the attention they need when my husband is sick. I have processes in place so I can continue to earn an income even when I’m not able to work.

So long as you’re prepared to invest the time and make the commitment, you can create the same kind of business and lifestyle for your own family.

Have you been thinking it’s time to finally write that e-book or special report? Perhaps you want to give it away to gain more subscribers for your list. Or maybe you would like to increase your passive income by selling an e-book or report.

Whatever your reason for creating it, turning your articles into an e-book is an easy way to repurpose content you’ve already written. Here are some steps to follow to do just that:

1. Compile articles that are on a similar theme so they work together as a book or report. If you’ve written an article series, or have several articles that are on one topic, these would be good candidates for your e-book or report. If you don’t have this in place, take some time to write what you’re missing.

2. Organize your articles into a logical format. I like to write a short introduction and conclusion for the book as well, so it feels like a book or report, not like a few articles put together.

3. Depending on how long you’re making your book or report, you also might want to add a table of contents, to make the e-book easier to use.

4. I usually format the articles and content in a Word document and then publish it as a PDF to create the e-book or report. For this, I use Adobe Acrobat, but there are some good free programs as well.

5. You’ll also want to add some active links to your new document, so they can visit your website or any affiliate links you have in there. If you use a table of contents, you can link that to the various articles throughout the book.

6. For an e-book, you’ll want to add a professional looking cover. If you’re like me and don’t do graphics, you can hire a designer to create one for you.

One more quick tip - ask some of your online friends or clients to review it for you and use their testimonials on your sales page or download page. Now that you’ve published your first e-book, the next step is to let your market know how much it can benefit them.

Are you feeling confused by all the expert opinions on how to best use article marketing for your business? You might feel relieved to learn this article marketing truth:

There is no one “right way” to use article marketing for your business.

How many times, have you heard someone say, “You must do this” or “You need to do that” for your business?

I’m working with a business coach-a very experienced, extremely successful, but very down-to-earth type of woman. (I want to be just like her when I grow up.) But I’ve noticed she never tells me, “This is something you have to do.”

Instead she says, “Try this….” And it might work. Or it might not, so we tweak it. Or maybe I take her idea and run with it to make it my own and fit what I think will work for me.

In the WAHM-Articles.com forum, we talk a lot about various approaches to article marketing. There’s one thing I’ve noticed consistently: all the rules I’ve learned from the “experts| don’t work for everyone.

For every article marketing strategy I’ve heard, there is someone on that forum who says, “I don’t do it that way. I do this instead, and it works for me.” And it really does.

Article marketing is more “art” than anything else. So when you hear someone say, “This is the right way to do this,” or even if you hear me say, “This is the best way to…” don’t assume that’s the only way – or even that it’s the right approach for you.

Instead, take it for what it is – one person’s experience – and see how you can make it work for you.

Using popular keywords in your work at home articles will help make sure your audience can find your articles when they search for them. But once you find your keywords, how can you keep track of them?

I keep track of my keywords in an Excel spreadsheet. Here are some of the things I track, to keep my keywords organized:

Date: This is the date that you found the keywords. If you’ve been researching keywords, you’ll notice that the things people search for change over time. So, you may not want to optimize an article for popular keywords you discovered last year, without checking to see that they’re still popular.

Keyword Phrase: In the next column, I put the keyword phrase that I found. Remember that you want to stay away from single words, and actually go with a meaningful phrase.

Popularity: This is the number of how many times that phrase has been searched for in the past month. Your keyword research tool will tell you that.

Competition: This is the number of how many other pages are competing for that keyword. Depending on which tool you’re using, you may have to do separate research to find out for yourself.

To find how much competition you have in Google, for example, do a search for the phrase with quotes around it. If I wanted to check the competition for people who are writing about dogs like mine, I would search for “curly cream schnoodle”, just like that, with the quotes around it.

A note on popularity and competition: Your goal is to find keywords that are popular, but don’t have a lot of competition

Articles: Then I have several columns for the titles of articles I write using that keyword phrase. You could even include the dates you wrote and submitted each article. I use a different spreadsheet to track where and when each article has been published.

You’ve just put the finishing touches on your work at home article, and now it’s time to share it with your eager audience. One of the best ways to do that is to submit it to article directories that are niched towards publishing work at home articles.

When you submit your articles to directories, there are a few different methods you can choose from:

- You can submit them yourself by going to each directory, logging in, and pasting your article in the fields. This method gets good results, but it can take up a lot of your time – time you could be spending on writing your next work at home article!
- You can pay a virtual assistant to submit your articles for you. The cost of this service can vary, anywhere from $10 an hour to $45 an hour or more. The benefit of using a virtual assistant, though, is you’ll be able to get started writing your next article while someone else submits this one for you.
- You can try submitting your article using article submission software. I know this method is really popular with some article marketers, but I’m reluctant to use software to submit my own writing. I’ve met several directory owners who tell me they don’t accept articles that are submitted automatically, and I prefer to maintain control over my article submissions.

A program I have successfully used to submit my work at home articles very quickly is Roboform. Roboform is a nifty program that fills in forms for you at the click of a button and keeps track of all your passwords.

Roboform can also help speed up your article submissions. It has several customizable forms you can fill in with your article title, summary, body, keywords, resource box, or whatever else you need. Then on each submission site, you just click the button and all the fields are automatically filled in. Very cool!

There is a free version and a paid version of the program. The free version will work if you just want to try it out. With the paid version, you can customize the fields more effectively for the different article sites you visit.

Almost every article directory has a different name for each field to be filled in, and Roboform only works if your field titles match exactly. The paid version will give you more flexibility for creating the fields you need.

Roboform also helps article submissions go faster because it remembers all your passwords to the article directories you use. On the login page for each article directory, you can tell Roboform to “Fill and Submit” and you’re logged in with just one click!

I’ve noticed it does have problems filling information on a few websites, but most of the time it works very smoothly.

In spite of a few hiccups, Roboform is an easy and cost-effective way to submit more articles in a lot less time – which means you can get started writing that next work at home article a lot sooner than you thought!
